Pregnancy is such an incredible time in a woman’s life and one that most of us only experience a couple of times. Portraits by Sarah’s can help you capture the beauty of your pregnancy with a Maternity Photography Session. The sessions are enjoyable, relaxed and informal and the perfect opportunity to have a studio tour and discuss your upcoming Newborn Session (if applicable).
Maternity sessions are best during 32 to 36 weeks of your term, when bump is showing but before you get too uncomfortable. However it is possible to have a session any time before your baby is due so if you would rather wait until you are on maternity leave that is absolutely fine.
Where will your session take place…
Your maternity session will take place in the comfort of my new studio in the peaceful village of Hare Street, near Buntingford, Hertfordshire. The studio has been designed with your comfort in mind and there is plenty of secure parking available.
How long will it take?…
That depends! Portraits by Sarah offers two types of Pregnancy Session:
– The Full Maternity Photography Session
This session is available to all Mummys to Be and is between 60 & 90 minutes long. It is completely bespoke and tailored to you. It will include various different outfits, wraps, underwear and nude (obviously optional) portraits. There is also an option to have some outdoor images taken towards the end of your session, weather permitting! You will receive a full gallery of at least 15 individually edited images to choose from. There are a selection of packages available to choose from that will suit most budgets and tastes.
– The Mini Maternity Photography Session
This mini session is exclusively available to Clients booking a Newborn Session with Portraits by Sarah. They are 30 minutes long, fully studio based (ie. no outdoor images) and will include 5 downloadable digital images from your session. The images will also be added to your Newborn USB. The total cost of the session and 5 digital images is £145. Mini pregnancy sessions can only be booked by prior arrangement with Sarah.
What to wear?…
For Maternity Photography sessions it is really underwear you need to focus on, a dark set, light or nude set and any others that you would like included. I have a gorgeous strapless ivory maternity gown that you are welcome to wear and also open fronted tops – shirts, wraps, cardigans, kimonos with just underwear underneath are very effective. We can also incorporate some tasteful nude images if you are brave enough (a nude thong sometimes works for these as it’s easy to edit out…) obviously this is completely optional and you can decide how you feel on the day.
Studio sessions are normally carried out in bare feet so if you wear nail varnish now is the time to put it on. Hands are also on show so please pay them a little TLC before the session. With regards to hair & make up – play safe and stick with your normal style. Unless you are after a particular look this is probably not the time to experiment with new hairstyles or make up.
Tiny features: downy ears & shoulders; delicate fingers & toes; chubby cheeks; tiny noses, lips and oh those eyelashes! Squeaky noises; that gorgeous baby smell and even baggy skin on premature babies that they haven’t grown into it yet. This is why I love photographing newborns 🙂 Every baby is different but they all have one thing in common. Those fleeting newborn features will have changed in a few weeks time and that is why it is crucial to schedule your session for those first couple of weeks. (I suggest between 5 and 21 days and ideally before 14 days). Portraits by Sarah newborn photo shoots are very popular and normally book up several months in advance so it is best to contact me while you are still pregnant. Just after your 20 week scan is perfect.
Why not pop into the studio for a “tour”, meet me and view the props before you make your final decision? It’s important you feel comfortable with where you are going and the person who will be handling your precious new baby. If you decide to go ahead I will book a provisional date for your newborn photo shoot. We will rearrange this as necessary if baby arrives earlier or later than expected.
Where will your Newborn Photography session take place?
Portraits by Sarah’s newborn photography shoots take place in the comfort of my brand new spacious and airy but cosy studio in the village of Hare Street, near Buntingford, Hertfordshire. The studio has been designed with your comfort in mind and there is plenty of secure parking available. There is even a cosy log fire to relax beside!
How long will it take?
Newborn photography shoots usually take between 2-3 hours but can take up to 4 hours if baby is particularly hungry that day. I only book one session on a “Newborn day” to ensure that you and your baby do not feel rushed in any way.
What to expect
You can expect beautiful images and fabulous customer service. I will guide you through the whole process from your initial enquiry and your pre-session consultation can be combined with a studio tour or take place via email/telephone. Whichever suits you best. We will discuss your requirements, colour preferences, your style at home and where you would like to display your images so that I can create a truly Bespoke session for you. You will be invited to contact me as often a you like with queries regarding your session and styling.
If this is not your first baby you will probably want some photographs with their older siblings. Siblings of all ages are welcome in the studio. There is plenty of room. There is also an outdoor area where the little ones can run off a bit of steam (under supervision of course); wi-fi for the older ones and a cosy tea room next door where everyone can have a treat after the session.
